If you’re looking to get into the holiday spirit, Elf The Musical at the Marquis Theatre is your perfect ticket to joy, laughter, and Christmas cheer! I went to see the show with my friend Toosha last Saturday, Nov 16, and we both left the theatre filled with joy… You MUST see it!!!
Elf the Musical NYC Review – My Experience
From the moment the music started, my heart exploded with holly jolly vibes! 🎶🥹❤️
I cried and laughed… then cried and laughed again. It’s so heartwarming and OH SO GOOD, with dry humor that’s on point.
The opening number with the elves? BRILLIANT! The dancers look just like real elves – short, lively, and full of energy. As a former professional dancer, I was so impressed: they are actually dancing on their knees! 🤯 The effort and skill this takes are mind-blowing, and the costume design is perfection – their capes cleverly hide their legs, creating a flawless illusion. I was in awe of the choreography: those elves are twirling, leaping, and jumping like magic. Truly a standout moment!
Grey Henson as Buddy the Elf is so believable!!! He embodies sugarcoated optimism in a 30-year-old body, nagivating cynicism, love, and responsibility. His goofy charm and incredible talent make him perfect for this iconic Christmas role.
Young Kai Edgar (Michael Hobbs) is also extraordinary in his Broadway debut. He melted my heart when he sang “I’ll Believe in You.”
The mix of new songs, old jokes, and NYC references keeps you laughing and takes you on a rollercoaster of emotions! Be prepared for the most cheerful and joyful moment when Santa’s sleigh finally takes off from Central Park, powered by New Yorkers’ Christmas Spirit! 🎅🛷❄️
Elf The Musical Summary
Based on the 2003 movie Elf starring Will Ferrell, this musical adaptation follows Buddy, who discovers he’s human after overhearing two elves talking… no wonder he’s so tall and goofy! Santa Claus himself reveals him the truth: as a young orphan, Buddy crawled into Santa’s sleigh and was raised by elves and Santa at the North Pole.
With Santa’s blessings, Buddy sets off to NYC to find his dad. Along the way, he makes a mess, spreads Christmas cheer, falls in love, bonds with his step-brother and step-mom, and eventually wins over his dad’s heart. 💖
Buddy’s journey is a heartwarming mix of goofy antics, laugh-out-loud moments, and heartfelt family bonds.
Expect lots of chaotic fun, sweet romance, and NYC magic. ✨🗽 IT’S SOOO GOOD!!!!!!
Sean Astin as Santa is also spot-on: his comedic timing and even a Hobbit joke are a fantastic addition to the show.
What to Expect
- For all ages: Parents, kids, and anyone looking to soak up the holiday spirit will LOVE it.
- Festive vibes everywhere: Families are dressed up for the holidays and the flying sleigh is pure magic!!!
- You’ll leave cheerful and joyful. Toosha and I found ourselves dancing and singing in the middle of Times Square afterward, smiling at everyone, even the ones bumping into us! Total Christmas spirit achieved!
