Most Dyker Heights homes are now lit… make sure to check their over the top Christmas lights decorations before the New Year’s Eve!!!
The must-see neighborhood extravaganza usually comes alive starting from the weekend after Thanksgiving.
In the past, I organized several VivereNewYork meetups to enjoy of the Christmas spirit all together – watch one of the videos I took to get a better sense of what to expect 😊
Here’s my personal itinerary, in case you’d like to go by yourself.
Take the D train and get off at 72 Street Station, then walk from there following the directions on the map: just make sure to zigzag inside the big area between 86th and 79th Streets and 13th and 10th Avenues.
I usually make a sweet stop at Tasty Pastry Shoppe on the way to the lights – years ago, I was introduced to their cannolis by our dear friends Kathy and Steve (born and raised in the neighborhood) and every time I’m in the area I make sure I get some.. their Christmas popsicle are so cute as well (see pic below)!
This year my friend – and a fantastic photographer! – Bernadeta, made me discover another hidden gem: JJ Christmas. It’s an enchanting family owned Christmas shop in the heart of Dyker Heights. Make sure to check it out, they have so many cute decorations (I’m personally in love with their holiday clocks!).
Also, on my way back to the subway, I usually stop by at La Bella Marketplace to do some grocery shop… they have so many Italian imported goodies!!!
GOOD TO KNOW:
Most of the houses turn their displays off after 9pm.
If you’re trying to avoid the crowd, you might want to get there at dusk of a weekday.
During the weekend it gets a little crazier, however you’ll have more chance to catch Christmas Carrolls singing or Santas.
You’ll be able to get hot chocolate or ice cream at one of the many tracks in different corners.
The Dyker Heights Christmas lights are worth the trip, you’ll be MESMERIZED!!!!
Great for kids and for adults.
