Last summer our friend George invited us at his place Upstate NY for a pizza night on his terrace.
He said we could make delicious Neapolitan pizza – just like the ones we serve at Sottocasa – using his small portable oven… I confess we were a bit skeptical! ๐
Well, George was right!!!
Now we also have our own portable oven Upstate NY!
We choose the OONI 3 – now Ooni Fyra.
We haven’t tried other models, however we’re very happy with the one we got.
Before writing this post, we played a little bit with the oven to make sure it was worth recommending it.
The first pizzas we made were really good, however we had some troubles with the fire: from time to time there was a sort of micro explosion from the back and we couldn’t figure out how to prevent that from happening…
PROBLEM SOLVED: we only had to keep the fire running adding pellets ๐ฅ – it’s actually super easy.
โ Pros:
โ it takes less than 2 min to cook an authentic Neapolitan pizza: cut and share it with friends so you won’t even notice you have to wait between pizzas!
โ the oven is so compact that you can easily storage everywhere (we keep ours in the garage)
โ good value: it’s the least expensive (about $250) option for a backyard oven!!!
โCons:
โ it takes a little practice to master how to keep the fire running adding few pellets at the time (you want to avoid the micro explosion in the back I just shared with you above)
โ you can cook only one pizza at the time
โ you have to wait few minutes to bring back the oven to temperature before making another pizza
