Looking for the perfect place to stay in Seaport, NYC? My friend Taima and I just spent a memorable Thursday to Saturday “weekend” at 33 Seaport Hotel, and I can’t wait to share all the insights and recommendations I have for you about the hotel and the hidden gems of the neighborhood!
33 Seaport Hotel Review
Nestled within a charming red-bricked landmark, the 33 Seaport Hotel blends the Seaport District’s 18th-century charm with modern comfort, elegance, and luxury.
Rooms & Accommodations
This beautiful boutique gem offers spacious and comfortable rooms, with unparalleled views of the iconic Brooklyn Bridge from its top floors. Some suites even feature spectacular wraparound balconies and windows on all side!
The bathrooms exude elegance and chicness, complete with Malin + Goetz toiletries (which I absolutely adore!), plush robes, and cozy slippers. While standard rooms feature showers, the suites offer a luxurious bathtub with a separate large shower.
The biggest plus for me is the bed and pillows: unbelievably comfortable, with high-quality, super soft bedding that made me wish I had the same setup at home!
While the windows may be drafty (we had to set the thermostat to 78 to reach a room temperature around 70), I appreciated how the rooms are flooded with natural light!
Top-notch hospitality
From the moment I stepped into 33 Seaport Hotel, I was greeted with warmth and hospitality.
Thomas, super kind doorman, went out of his way to provide me with recommendations for exploring the area as a local. Michelle and Iman at the front desk embodied hospitality, ensuring our every need was met. Whether it was the friendly bartender at Jewel Bar or Enrique, our attentive waiter during breakfast, every staff member served us with a beautiful smile.

While the restaurant is undergoing renovations, you can still enjoy breakfast from 7-11am, and all-day dining from 11am-10pm either in the sophisticated lounge or the comfort of your own room.
We indulged in breakfast in bed on the second day, and I’d highly recommend the French toast with strawberry cream, fresh berries and white chocolate curls… it’s to die for!!!
History
Originally opened in 1993 and recently renovated in 2018 – when it was formally known as Mr. C – 33 Seaport Hotel has undergone significant changes, including a new management. I had the pleasure to run into General Manager Gary DeSoiza, who made sure our stay was enjoyable.

What to do in the South Street Seaport District
The Seaport has served the city as a hub of trade, commerce and entertainment for nearly 400 years. Although it faced severe damage from Hurricane Sandy in October 2012, the neighborhood was rebuilt stronger (as often happens in NYC), preserving its historic buildings and cobblestones, together with new attractions.
Don’t miss Pier 17 with its performance venue and a variety of restaurants & bars, the elevated park on top of Pier 15, the South Street Seaport Museum, and the new hot spot, Tin Building by Jean-Georges, evoking the vibes of the Chelsea Market in the South Street Seaport District.
If you’re up for a stroll, you can head south to the Financial District, west to the 9/11 Memorial, World Trade Center, and Brookfield Place, or north to City Hall and a walk over the Brooklyn Bridge. I would actually suggest you to walk over the bridge from Brooklyn to Manhattan to fully enjoy the breathtaking view of the Manhattan Skyline (see “Insider Wow Tip from a local” below).
Fun things to do on a rainy day: order some flowers (ours are from Starbright) and have fun taking photos inside the hotel… we had a blast!
Neighborhood Hidden Gems
Here’s a list of my favorite places in the area, combined with some other tips from locals like Thomas, the doorman at 33 Seaport Hotel:
- McNally Jackson Bookstore & Cafe (at 4 Fulton Street) is a must-visit whimsical independent bookstore. On the first floor, you’ll find a great selection of books, tote bags, postcards, gift wraps, or gift cards, and you’ll love their charming stationary corner. You can also relax in the cozy coffee shop or walk upstairs, to immerse yourself in the ambiance of an elegant library, where every nook feels like a quiet oasis. They also have a super cute dedicated space for kids!
- Cafe Patoro (at 223 Front Street) is a charming Brazilian coffee shop known for its delicious Pão de Queijo, which are very tasty little cheese balls. They also serve pastries, cakes, croissants, sandwiches, crêpes, and more. A tip I got from Thomas: ask them to warm up the Pão de Queijo for you 😉. Next time, I’ll have to try their gooey brigadeiro cake… can’t wait to go back!
- Tin Building (at 96 South Street) is a unique marketplace, grocery, retail, and culinary destination overseen by the renowned chef and restaurateur Jean-Georges Vongerichten. You’ll have so many restaurant options to choose from! We had incredibly delicious shrimp burritos at Taquitos on the second floor.
- Cowgirl Seahorse (at 259 Front Street) is a laid back Tex-Mex bar/restaurant offering tacos, Mac n cheese, tortilla chips, and more. While the food is ok, it’s a fantastic spot to hang out with friends over a good drink.
- The Little Shop (at 252 Front Street) is hidden a speakeasy bar hidden behind a shelf of a friendly neighborhood bodega 😎
- Hole in the Wall (at 15 Cliff Street) is the perfect brunch spot. After waiting in line for 25 minutes in the rain on Saturday morning, securing a spot for two was totally worth it. Every bite exceeded our expectations, and the side of shrimp was ‘Oh, So Good!’ (you probably noticed by now that I LOVE shrimp 🤣).
- Warrior Bridge (at 250 Front Street) is described as “A place to connect, play, and challenge your body & mind”. After practicing AcroYoga in Bryant Park back in 2015, I was recommended to take classes at Warrior Bridge. It’s a neat and practical studio where you can learn acrobatics, inversions, handstands, and flexibility. I used to go all the time before pandemic, and I had the pleasure of going upside down again with Melissa Wu during my stay at 33 Seaport Hotel (it’s literally 3 minutes away). I can’t wait to take more classes soon! If you’re in the area, you should definitely give it a try – I promise you’ll have a blast!
Insider WOW tips from a local – part 2
Take the East River Ferry from Wall Street/Pier 11 to Dumbo/Fulton Ferry in Brooklyn and enjoy the sunset over a drink at Time Out Market New York, located at 55 Water Street, before walking back to Manhattan over the Brooklyn Bridge.
The suggestion comes from my dear friend Taima at Poor in a Private Plane
Photography Tips: Capturing Cinematic NYC Locations
If you have a passion for photography, South Street Seaport District is the perfect place to capture beauty at every turn. Here are some of some of my favorite spots:
- Beekman Street, between Water and Front Streets, with its charming cobblestone pathways, will transport you back in time.
- Framing the Brooklyn Bridge from Malibu at Pier 17 offers the perfect juxtaposition of old-world charm and modern architecture.
- Get creative at McNally Jackson Bookstore & Cafe: every little nook is beautifully photogenic.
