On Easter Eve, I took my parents to Pillow Fight Day that happened in Washington Square Park .
We had a lot of fun watching and partly participating in the New York City “Pillow Fight Craziness”, and the highlight of the day was meeting Chelsea, and her family: Mitch (dad), Mary (mom), and Mollie(sister).
Chelsea is a super sweet girl with down syndrome. I noticed how focused she was in taking pictures of the event, and she had a gorgeous smile, so I complimented her… This is how we met. 😉
We started to talk a little, and soon after, her father shared with us that they were in NYC because they’ve just been on ABC Good Morning America!!! Her story is SO MOVING!!!!
Chelsea was supposed to go to prom. Because of her down syndrome, no-one had yet invited her. She took all the courage she had, and asked a boy out. It would be her first date! And the guy refused her invite.
As soon as Marcus – a very charming guy and former wresting champion from the same town near Seattle – knew what happened to Chelsea, he invited Chelsea to Prom!
Marcus showed up at Chelsea’s house to ask her parents’ permission. He made a huge poster that said: ” Chelsea, Will You Go To The Prom With Me?” .
Chelsea’s mom told us that she burst into tears of joy at seeing her daughter’s happiness, as she slowly repeated the words written on the poster aloud 😭😭😭❤️
After Prom was over, the mom -still deeply touched by this 18 y.o. wonderful gesture – wrote a letter to Good Morning America hoping they could share such a beautiful story – I’m still tearing up now while I’m translating my old Italian post!
Among more than a thousand stories a week, only the most exciting ones are chosen for the broadcast…
Guess who was on GMA?!
Love it’s in the small gestures that fill our hearts.
