Few days ago Francesca, my dear photographer friend, and I, went to Greenwood Park to say hi to Luca: Sottocasa portable pizza oven is now ready for the summer in the beer garden – I’ll tell you more in another post soon.
While heading back home, we notice a bright pink light in the sky and we started to run towards the river to catch the sunset over the NYC skyline.
We got on the first bus we caught (rides are still free because of COVID) and in that exact moment the sky started to turn black… NYC weather in these days is crazier than usual!
I was ready to go home when Francesca pressed the stop button to get off the bus… I’m still grateful to her!!!
We got to Smith and 9th Street in Brooklyn and the sky was on fire!!!
I couldn’t believe my eyes!!!
I was taking the last pictures while walking home in Boerum Hill, when I heard a man shouting “It’s a Sahara Dust Sunset!“.
There you go!!! That’s how I found out it was such a special occasion!
That night sunset was caused by desert Sahara sand particles carried by the wind and racing across the Atlantic Ocean from Africa.
Effects include hazy skies and poor air quality… on the other hand the African dust particles are scattering the sunlight creating the most spectacular and vibrant sunsets and sunrises. IT WAS AMAZING!
